About Avril

My interest in catering started at an early age:  By the time I was 13 I was doing the washing-up for a small kitchen in Lewes, East Sussex.  Over the next few summers, I waited on tables at the world famous Glyndebourne Opera House.  Then, finally, at 16 I was able to train at Brighton College of Hotel and Catering, where I gained my City and Guilds.

I then spent some time living in North Yorkshire, where I helped to set up and run the kitchen at The Buck Inn, Thornton Watlass, on the edge of the Dales.

Once married, and having had my two children, I gained invaluable experience by joining the family- run wholesale sandwich business.  And before I started up The Quality Cake Company, went on to work in several kitchens including the Hastings International Centre and the Marlborough House School in Hawkhurst, Kent.
